Karisma Kapoor’s children win big relief: Delhi HC freezes Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000 crore estate amid explosive family will battle

Sunjay Kapur estate dispute

The courtroom in Delhi turned into a high-stakes family battleground this week as the dispute over massive estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur took another sharp turn. What started as a will-related disagreement has now grown into a full-blown legal thriller involving accusations, suspicions, and a fortune worth nearly ₹30,000 crore. Court orders full freeze

The Delhi High Court has allowed the plea filed by Sunjay Kapur’s children from his marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor. The Court has ordered that the status quo must be maintained on the entire estate, meaning no changes can be made to the assets for now.

The Court has clearly restrained the creation of any third-party rights over the property. In simple terms, no one can sell, transfer, or reassign any part of the estate while the case is ongoing.

Adding more pressure, the Court has also directed that full account statements must be submitted. It has gone further by restraining the operation of foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency holdings linked to the estate.

The judges observed that “suspicious circumstances” have been raised by the petitioners and also by Defendant 3, Rani Kapur. Because of this, the Court said the responsibility now lies heavily on Priya Kapur (Defendant 1) to clear the doubts surrounding the Will and the handling of assets.

Claims, counterclaims, and sharp legal clash

At the heart of the dispute is the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur’s will. His children have challenged it. They have questioned whether it is genuine and properly executed. Their lawyers have argued that there are multiple inconsistencies. These include questionable language, lack of registration, unclear preparation details.

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani representing the children told Court that the will needs deeper scrutiny especially because Priya Kapur is both person presenting it and the sole beneficiary.

According to the argument, this dual role raises serious concerns about fairness and transparency.

On the other side, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya Kapur, strongly denied all allegations. He maintained that there has been no concealment of assets and insisted that full financial disclosures were already made.

He also rejected claims of asset siphoning and defended the Will as being valid, stating it follows a structure similar to another family Will.

Mother’s challenge adds new twist

Sunjay Kapur’s mother has also stepped in to challenge the will. She has claimed that she was never informed about its existence and has also raised questions about whether all assets have been properly disclosed.

This means the dispute is no longer limited to just one set of claimants. Multiple family members are now questioning how the estate is being handled and whether everything has been fairly documented.
