Third time is the charm? Aamir Khan set to marry Gauri Spratt on July 5
July 5 is the date, Aamir Khan's Mumbai home is the venue, and "registered marriage" is the vibe, because even his wedding has no unnecessary production value.
Rancho and his gang may be older, but their story is far from over as the sequel dives into life a decade later. With Rajkumar Hirani shaping the script, the film promises the same humour and heart with a fresh twist.

3 Idiots 2: Bollywood just dropped a nostalgia bomb and fans of engineering college chaos are already losing it. After years of “will it, won’t it” whispers, the classroom doors of one of India’s most loved films are finally reopening. Yes, the gang that made “All is well” a life mantra might be coming back… older, wiser, and probably still a little lost.
Aamir Khan has now made it official. ‘3 Idiots 2’ is not just an idea floating in Bollywood air anymore. It is actively being worked on. The actor revealed that filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is currently developing the sequel and shaping the story.

In a chat with Amar Ujala, Aamir shared that he has already heard the storyline and he clearly liked what he heard. He called it “wonderful,” which in Bollywood language is basically a green signal with a smile. But he also made it clear that the screenplay is still under construction. So yes, excitement is real, but patience is still required.

The sequel won’t just recycle old jokes. Instead, it plans to jump forward in time. According to Aamir, the story will revisit Rancho, Farhan, and Raju nearly ten years after the original events. That means new struggles, new realities, and probably some very grown-up problems served with the same humour fans fell in love with.
Aamir also admitted he’s excited to slip back into the shoes of Rancho, also known as Phunsukh Wangdu. He described the concept as “beautiful” and credited both Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi for crafting something fresh yet familiar.
When ‘3 Idiots’ released in 2009, it didn’t just become a hit. It became a full-blown cultural moment. Along with Aamir, the film starred R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
The film struck a nerve with audiences across age groups. It talked about India’s education system, parental pressure, friendship, and the courage to follow passion all wrapped in humour that didn’t feel preachy.
Dialogues became catchphrases, songs became anthems, and scenes became memes long before memes were even a thing.
Over the years, the film has refused to fade. It keeps finding new viewers, new fans, and new relevance. Naturally, talk of a sequel has popped up again and again but this is the first time it feels truly real.
While ‘3 Idiots 2’ is moving ahead, not everything on Aamir’s slate is going as planned. His much-talked-about reunion with Hirani for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke has been paused. The reason? The script isn’t quite there yet.
Meanwhile, another interesting project is quietly brewing. Reports suggest Aamir is in discussions to play Ashneer Grover, the co-founder of BharatPe, in a biopic. The casting buzz doesn’t stop there. Shraddha Kapoor is reportedly being considered as the female lead, while Rahul Mody may direct the film.
On the personal front, Aamir is currently busy playing proud dad. He is promoting his son Junaid Khan’s upcoming film ‘Ek Din’, which also stars Sai Pallavi. The film is set to release on May 1.
