The rise incidence of snakebite and related fatalities has sparked a widespread alarm across Kerala. The state is currently on high alert following a sudden spike in snakebite fatalities.

Snakebite incidents are reported from various places in the state on Monday. A four-and-a-half-year-old boy was bitten by a cobra at Elerithattu in Kasaragod while he was playing in the courtyards. The boy is undergoing treatment in the ICU at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.

In another incident, a 22-year-old man was bitten by a snake at Poonur in Kozhikode on Monday . He came to know about the bite when he saw a snake in his bed in the morning. He was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

An elderly man from Chirayankeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram, was bitten by a snake on Monday. Bhuvana Chandran, a native of Perumkuzhi, was bitten by a snake. He was taken to Chirayankeezhu Taluk Hospital and given anti-venom and was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

A 21-year-old woman was bitten by a snake in Edappal, Malappuram on Monday. Shahala Thasnik, a native of Chirakkal, was bitten on the foot. The woman was taken to the taluk hospital and then shifted to a private hospital in Edappal.

Two people were bitten by a snake at Karalam, Irinjalakuda in Thrissur on Monday morning. Praseetha, who lives in Velleparampil near Pullathara Center in Karalam, was bitten by the snake while she was mowing the grass in her garden.

Saneesh, a native of Thanissery, was bitten near the canal in Thanissery on Monday morning. He was bitten by the snake while loading equipment into a vehicle. He was admitted to Irinjalakuda Cooperative Hospital.

Seven people were bitten by snakes in Alappuzha on Sunday alone. Five people, including two children aged 3 and 10, were bitten by snakes in Kayamkulam. Of them, two were shifted to Vandanam Medical College Hospital. The other three are under observation at Kayamkulam Taluk Hospital. Two people were bitten by snakes in Alappuzha and Cherthala on Sunday. They are also under observation at Vandanam Medical College Hospital.

In recent weeks, Kerala has seen a tragic surge in fatal snake bites, claiming the lives of seven individuals, including children. Experts warn that extreme heat is driving snakes into houses in search of cool shelter and prey.
