The Consulate General of Iran in Hyderabad on Saturday stated that a fresh Iranian oil shipment has reached Indian waters despite ongoing restrictions amid US naval blockade, marking the third such delivery within a week.

In a post on social media, the Consulate said that the Iranian supertanker Dorna was recently tracked off India’s southern coast after departing from Iran shortly before the reported blockade. The vessel is expected to deliver around two million barrels of crude oil to a refinery in the region.

Tanker tracked near Indian coast

Shipping intelligence firm TankerTrackers confirmed that an Iranian very large crude carrier (VLCC) was observed near India on Saturday. The vessel appeared on the Automatic Identification System (AIS) off the southern coastline and is en route to discharge its cargo at a local refinery.

First such delivery in seven years

The latest developments come days after India reportedly received its first Iranian VLCC shipment last week in seven years. That cargo, also comprising about two million barrels, was unloaded earlier this week.

The recent arrivals signal a notable uptick in oil trade between India and Iran, even as global scrutiny over sanctioned crude flows continues.
