The internet is buzzing as the teaser of the new Ramayana hits screens, and the most unexpected reaction has come from none other than Dipika Chikhlia, the beloved Sita from the 1980s Doordarshan classic. Once famously critical of repeated retellings, she is now all praise.

“I watched the teaser and it’s very grand… Bahut rich lag raha hai,” Dipika told India Today. Translation: the visuals look lavish, the sets feel royal, and yes, she’s genuinely impressed. She added, “It looks very beautiful, there’s no doubt about it. I’m eagerly awaiting the film.”

This shift is striking, especially considering her earlier outspoken reservations. Just last year in June 2024, Dipika had openly shared her frustration over constant retellings of the epic. She had said, “Honestly, I am quite disillusioned by people who keep making Ramayan… People are making a mess of it. Every time they make it, they want to bring a new story, a new angle, a new look.” She didn’t spare Adipurush either, criticising its approach during the same interview.

Dipika’s portrayal of Sita on Doordarshan’s Ramayan made her a household name in the late 1980s.

Teaser gives a glimpse of the new epic

The new Ramayana teaser shows Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, with Sai Pallavi stepping into Sita’s sandals, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.

Sunny Deol will make a strong entry as Hanuman.

While we only see flashes of Yash’s Ravana, the grandeur of the sets and costumes is impossible to miss.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the project is designed as a two-part spectacle. Music legends Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman join forces to score the epic soundtrack.

The first part is ready for Diwali 2026, with the second following in Diwali 2027.
