Lauding the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transform India’s aviation sector, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Sunday said that the state government aims to develop one commercial airport every 150 km, an airstrip every 75 km, and a helipad every 45 km across the state.

Dr Yadav said that due to the Prime Minister’s foresight, air travel has become accessible to all sections of society, making it affordable even for the common citizen.

He said that India is witnessing rapid expansion in air services and highlighted that the PM Shri Air Ambulance Service has also been launched in Madhya Pradesh, enabling critically ill patients to be transported swiftly to advanced medical centres.

Dr Yadav noted that the new terminal will further strengthen Indore’s position on the national and international aviation map. He also expressed satisfaction that Indore’s aviation facilities have received a quality certification from the American Quality Council, and handed over the certificate of registration to airport officials.

The Chief Minister stated that passengers will benefit from world-class facilities at the new terminal. Under the redevelopment project, works worth approximately ₹50 crore have been undertaken, including renovation of the old terminal building. The upgraded terminal can handle around 400 passengers per hour.

It features 14 check-in counters, seating capacity for approximately 300 passengers, a terminal area of around 6,000 square metres, and an annual passenger handling capacity of 1.5 million. Additional facilities include operations for 18 flights, parking for 150 four-wheelers, and a VIP lounge.

Dr Yadav also announced that an “Udaan Yatri Café” will soon be set up at the terminal, offering tea for ₹10 and snacks for ₹20 to passengers.

He further informed that Madhya Pradesh currently has eight airports, 20 airstrips, and 220 helipads. In the past two years, new airports have become operational in Rewa, Satna and Datia. Preparations are also underway to develop new airports in Ujjain and Shivpuri, which will increase the total number of airports in the state to 10.
