Ex-Agniveers will have an option to take up the jobs as constables (executive) in the Delhi Police as the force will reserve 20 per cent of the aforementioned posts for them, according to a recently issued Home Ministry notification on Friday. An amendment to this effect has been made to the Delhi Police (Appointment & Recruitment) Rules, 1980.
This is in keeping with the Centre’s vision to take the Agniveers from different domains and forces, whose armed forces tenure of four years has ended, on board.
The ex-Agniveers will also get a relaxation of three years in the prescribed upper age limit and a further age relaxation of five years beyond the prescribed upper age limit for the candidates of the first batch of the Agniveer Scheme. They will also be exempt from the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

The notification allows other categories of Engineers, such as SC/ST/OBC, ex-servicemen, and sportsmen, special reservations in recruitment consistent with the Centre’s directives.
According to the notification, the amended rules come into effect from the date of publication.
It also says that the Police Commissioner shall frame standing orders prescribing application forms and detailed procedure to be followed for conducting Physical efficiency, Physical Measurement, written test for regulating the said recruitment.
The former Agniveers are the young individuals recruited by the armed forces for a period of four years as part of the Centre’s Agnipath Scheme started in 2022.
After completing the four years, the Agniveers go to the society as a disciplined, dynamic, motivated and skilled workforce, and are ready for employment in other sectors to pursue their career in the job of their choice.
