‘Press the lotus symbol with such anger that every single infiltrator leaves Assam’: Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday called on people of Assam to vote for the BJP and press the symbol of lotus (BJP’s poll symbol in EVMs) with such anger that every single infiltrator leaves Assam and goes back.

Addressing a public meeting in Dhekiajuli Constituency of Sonitpur district in Assam, Shah comended Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for closing the state’s borders to infiltrators.

“Elections are going to be held here on 9 April. You must definitely press the button on the lotus symbol, but press it with such anger that every single infiltrator leaves Assam and goes back. The Congress government had kept the doors open for infiltrators in Assam for years. Our Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has closed Assam’s borders to infiltrators,” Shah said.

The home minister further stated that the BJP is committed to ensuring that every single infiltrator is removed from Assam.

Doubling down on this, Shah said that simply halting infiltration in Assam is not enough. “We must ensure that those who have entered illegally are also removed from Assam.”

“These infiltrators are taking away employment opportunities from our youth and consuming resources that rightfully belong to the people of Assam. They have no legitimate claim to this land,” Shah said.

Urging people to support the BJP for a third term, Shah pledged to identify and remove every infiltrator from the state in the next five years.

Shah also backed the Election Commission of India’s the Special Investigation Report (SIR) process, saying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has opposed the initiative but people should not be concerned as the central government, led by PM Narendra Modi is taking strong action to address this issue.

“We will detect, delete (names from electoral rolls) and deport these infiltrators,” he reiterated.

He also highlighted the BJP’s governance record, claiming that Assam has seen a significant improvement in security over the past decade.

He alleged that during the Congress rule, Assam witnessed bomb blasts, shootings, and the tragic loss of many young lives but the BJP has made the state free from terrorism in the past ten years.

“Under the leadership of PM Modi, we have established peace in Assam and helped 10,000 youth lay down their arms and embrace a better future,” he added.
