Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Uttar Pradesh on March 28 to inaugurate Phase I of the Noida International Airport, a landmark infrastructure project aimed at expanding aviation capacity in the National Capital Region.

According to an official release issued on Thursday, the Prime Minister will arrive at the airport site in Jewar, located in Gautam Buddha Nagar, and will tour the terminal building around 11:30 AM. The formal inauguration is scheduled for noon, followed by a public address.

Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 11,200 crore under a public-private partnership model, the airport is being hailed as a major step toward positioning India as a global aviation hub. It will act as a second international gateway for the region, complementing the Indira Gandhi International Airport and helping ease congestion while boosting both passenger and cargo operations.

Phase I of the project will initially handle 12 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 70 million passengers per year upon completion. The airport includes a 3,900-metre runway capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft and is equipped with advanced navigation systems such as Instrument Landing System (ILS) and modern lighting for all-weather, 24/7 operations.

Beyond passenger services, the project features a major cargo ecosystem, including an integrated terminal and logistics zones designed to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, scalable up to 18 lakh metric tonnes. A dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub is also part of the development.

Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is envisioned as a multi-modal transport hub, integrating road, rail, metro, and regional transit networks for seamless connectivity. It is also designed as a sustainable, future-ready facility aiming for net-zero emissions, with architecture inspired by Indian heritage elements like ghats and havelis.

With its scale and strategic importance, the Noida International Airport is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, support economic growth, and strengthen the NCR’s position as a global aviation hub.
