Mamata agrees to Firhad’s resignation as civic body mayor: Kunal Ghosh
Mamata Banerjee gave a nod to Firhad Hakim’s proposal to resign from the mayoral post claimed by TMC leader Kunal Ghosh today.
With Mamata Banerjee heading the star campaigner roster and candidates spread across five regions, TMC is mounting its most organised electoral effort in Assam to date.

The Trinamool Congress on Friday released its first list of 17 candidates for the April 9 assembly polls in Assam. The list was released under the “guidance and inspiration” of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier, the party submitted 18 star campaigners to the Election Commission, with Mamata herself at the top, followed by Abhishek Banerjee, Sushmita Dev, Mahua Moitra, and Shatrughan Sinha.

The party has fielded Udangsri Narzary from Baokhungri in Kokrajhar and Mominur Islam from Bilasipara in Dhubri. Arif Akhtar Ahmed will contest from Jaleswar in Goalpara, and Kaushik Ranjan Das from Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon.

Kalyani Kalita will contest from Bajali, Dulu Ahmed – Chamaria, Bhogial Rabha – Boko-Chaygaon seat, Bikash Nath Yogi – Palasbari, and Amirul Islam – Barkhetri.
The Congress has named 94 candidates across the 126-seat assembly and is still firming up alliances with Raijor Dal and other regional outfits.
On the other side, the BJP is contesting 89 seats, with coalition partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) taking 26 and 11 seats respectively.
Assam votes in a single phase on April 9, with results on May 4.
