US President Donald Trump on Friday launched a scathing attack on NATO allies, calling them “cowards” over their refusal to join American efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz shipping route amid the war with Iran.
In a social media post on his Truth Social, Trump said that the Western security alliance is “a paper tiger” without the United States.

“Without the U.S.A., NATO IS A PAPER TIGER!” Trump said on Truth Social.
He said that NATO allies didn’t want to join the fight to stop a “nuclear-powered Iran”, adding that the US will “remember”.
He asserted that the US has “militarily won” and that there was very little danger for them now.
“Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk,” he said.
“COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER!” the US President added.
His remarks came after NATO allies refused to join the Iran war. Some European countries have reportedly said that they may be able to join the US mission in the Hormuz only after a ceasefire is announced.
Following the US and Israeli attacks, Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz shipping route. The country is allowing only a handful of ships to sail through the Strait.
The blockade has resulted in a major global energy crisis, with crude and gas prices skyrocketing to record levels since the 2022 Ukraine invasion.
