Kirti Azad, MP from Bardhaman–Durgapur, on Thursday warned that he would have the half-built foot overbridge at Bardhaman railway station demolished, criticising Eastern Railway for the “extremely disappointing” pace of work.
Azad said the old British-era over bridge had been dismantled four years ago to make way for a new flyover, with assurances that a footbridge for commuters ~ particularly pedestrians ~ would be completed swiftly. However, the structure remains unfinished. He also referred to a parliamentary mention he made on 10 December and a letter from the Railway Minister, which he described as misleading.

“There is no point in leaving an incomplete bridge; we will have it demolished if the railway authorities do not act immediately,” Azad said at a Press conference.
He also accused the central government of pursuing anti-people policies and alleged that a large pond near Ward No. 4 had been filled in by railway authorities in the name of station development.
