The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, apprehended 17 government officials and one private individual red-handed while accepting bribes in 14 separate trap cases during the month of February.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, apprehended 17 government officials and one private individual red-handed while accepting bribes in 14 separate trap cases during the month of February.

Disclosing this here on Thursday, an official spokesperson of the State VB said that the Bureau has been making sustained efforts to eradicate corruption among public servants and others across all sectors.

He further informed that the Bureau submitted challans in 26 vigilance cases in various competent courts during the last month.

In addition, three vigilance enquiries were initiated to thoroughly probe corruption-related matters. He added that nine criminal cases were also registered against 35 accused, including 11 government employees.

Providing further details, the spokesperson said that four bribery cases pursued by the Bureau were decided by competent courts during the month.

In these cases, four individuals were convicted and awarded sentences ranging from three and a half years to four years of imprisonment, along with fines ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.
