The BJP on Monday released its first list of 47 candidates for the upcoming Kerala assembly elections on April 9.

The BJP on Monday released its first list of candidates for 47 seats for the upcoming Kerala assembly elections. Former Union minister and current state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been fielded from Nemom constituency in Thiruvananthapuram, from where party leader O Rajagopal was elected to the Assembly in the 2016 polls.

The party has fielded former Union minister V Muraleedharan from Kazhakkoottam, while former state president K Surendran will seek a mandate from Manjeswaram. Union Minister George Kurian will enter the fray from Kanjirapally constituency. Former CPM MLA S Rajendran, who joined the BJP recently, will contest from Devikulam. Father-son duo PC George and Shon George will contest from Poonjar and Pala, respectively.
Former Director General of Police (DGP) R Sreelekha has been fielded from Vattiyoorkavu while former chief minister K Karunakaran’s daughter Padmaja Venugopal will seek a mandate from Thrissur.
Firebrand leader Sobha Surebdran will be in the fray from Palakkad constituency.
The first list also includes former state president PK Krishnadas (Kattakada), Anoop Antony Joseph (Thiruvalla) and BB Gopakumar (Chathannoor). Army officer turned filmmaker Major Ravi will seek a mandate from Ottapalam.
