The northeastern hills of India are about to witness some serious mystery and dark humour as Swastika Mukherjee gears up for her latest cinematic ride, ‘Chheledhora’. Directed by Shieladitya Moulik, this Indo-American co-production promises a morally complex heroine who might just steal your heart… or your patience.
The cameras are ready to roll on March 1 according to Variety, with breathtaking locations across Itanagar and Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh.

About Swastika Mukherjee’s character, Brishti
At the center of this story is Brishti, a divorced woman with a messy life, raw emotions, and instincts that often get her into trouble. She impulsively “steals” her daughter for a birthday celebration only to realise that the child has actually been abducted.
If you think Mukherjee can only play the girl-next-door or the fiery Bengali mom, think again. Her career spans from Dibakar Banerjee’s ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’ to Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s ‘Janala’. Then came Amazon Prime series ‘Paatal Lok’, Netflix’s ‘Qala’, and even gangster roles in ‘Kaali Potka’.
The powerhouse behind the scenes
‘Chheledhora’ is the result of creative minds coming together across continents. Co-produced by Handyyman (India) and Sita22 Films (India/USA), the film benefits from a mix of experience and fresh vision.
The visual language of ‘Chheledhora’ aims to be as compelling as the story. Italian cinematographer Vincenzo Condorelli, known for ‘Cobalt Blue’ and ‘Songs of Paradise’, will capture the rugged, ethereal beauty of Ziro Valley.
The supporting crew reads like a who’s-who of contemporary Indian cinema. Suven Kumar Das is the line producer. Jitin Hingorani is creative producer. Somanwita Bhattacharya is production designer and Ajopa Mukherjee is handling costumes.
Production is likely to continue through the end of March.
