After submitting his resignation, Karmakar said: “It was becoming gradually unbearable for me to compromise further with the party’s present leadership. The party has become a coterie of corrupt people and the leaders are more cosy with businessmen and less flexible with party members who want to work. I raised the issue repeatedly but the leaders didn’t like it. So, it’s better if I quit now.”

Karmakar, however, did not divulge any plans of moving to any other party. Haldar, the district youth chief, said: “This move is unexpected from a senior leader like him. I’ll talk to him personally on this,” suggesting that the resignation had not been officially accepted.
