The opposition Indian National Congress staged a protest in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly premises on Monday against the proposed Indo–US trade deal, alleging that it is anti-farmer and against the interests of the country and its people.

The Congress leaders alleged that the trade deal would severely undermine the income and interests of Indian farmers and could cause long-term damage to the country’s economy and public welfare.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge are scheduled to launch the party’s ‘Kisan Sammelan’ campaign against the Indo–US trade deal in Bhopal on February 24.

According to party leaders, the protest programme will begin from Atal Path as part of a wider nationwide agitation to highlight farmers’ concerns over the proposed agreement.
