“Two balloons with US and Pakistani currencies attached to them were found near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector. Investigations are underway to determine whether the currency is fake or not. More details awaited,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police said.
The balloons also reportedly carried a Pakistani phone number written on them. The police have taken the balloons and the notes into custody and a further investigation to ascertain the likely motive is underway.
The incident comes a day after three terrorists, including a top commander of the Pakiatan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar.
Acting on specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area, the Indian Army launched a joint operation codenamed ‘Operation Trashi-I’ with the Jammu and Kashmir police and the CRPF.
As the forces were closing in, the terrorists opened fire, prompting a strong retaliation from the joint teams of Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police. Indian Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed three terrorists were killed in the gunbattle.
