Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Kerala’s youngest organ donor, ten-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham, and paid tribute to her during his monthly radio address, Mann Ki Baat.
“There is no greater grief for parents than losing a child. The pain of losing a small child is even deeper. A few days ago, we lost a little girl from Kerala, Alin Sherin Abraham. She left us at just 10 months old. She had her whole life ahead of her, but it ended suddenly. She left behind many dreams and joys. Words cannot express the pain her parents must have felt.

Despite this immense pain, Alin’s father Arun Abraham and mother Sherin made a decision that inspires the entire nation. They decided to donate Alin’s organs. This single decision reflects their great character. Even while grieving the loss of their daughter, they chose to help others. They did not want another family to suffer the same fate,” the Prime Minister said in Mann Ki Baat.

“Alin Sherin Abraham is no longer with us, but her name has been added to the list of the youngest organ donors in the country. Awareness about organ donation has increased in India. This noble act will help many people and give a boost to the country’s medical research,” PM Modi further said.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that India is at the forefront of organ donation. He described organ donation as a noble act that should be encouraged to help those in need. He added that many organ recipients are now leading normal lives and reiterated that he would always encourage organ donation.
Alin, the daughter of Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, natives of Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district, died following a road accident on February 5. The accident occurred near the Pallam Borma Kavala junction while the family was travelling by car from Kottayam to Thiruvalla via MC Road. The seriously injured child was admitted to hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla, and later shifted to Amrita Hospital in Kochi on February 7, where she was declared brain-dead a week later.
Following this, her parents agreed to donate her organs, making Alin the youngest organ donor in the state. Her liver, two kidneys, heart valve and corneas were donated, giving a new lease of life to five people.
Alin, whose tragic death moved the entire state, now lives on through the recipients. Her liver was transplanted during a seven-hour surgery at KIMS Health, Thiruvananthapuram, into a six-month-old baby suffering from severe liver failure. Her kidneys were transplanted into a 10-year-old child at the Government Medical College Hospital here. Her heart valves have been preserved at Sree Chithra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, while her corneas have been preserved at Amrita Hospital, Kochi.
