Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday alleged that air quality in Lucknow is as bad as in Delhi, responding to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent remarks that Gorakhpur has better pollution levels than the national capital.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Yadav said, “The truth is that the air in both Delhi and Lucknow is bad,” adding criticism of both the state and central leadership.

He also accused the BJP government of corruption and misgovernance, alleging irregularities in various sectors. Referring to past policy decisions, he claimed demonetisation was linked to electoral considerations and criticised the now-repealed farm laws, asserting that public pressure and political mobilisation led to their withdrawal.
Raising religious and social concerns, Yadav alleged that certain respected religious figures were being insulted and said his party stands with those facing injustice.
He also accused the state government of using inappropriate language against opposition leaders, referring to alleged remarks made against Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey in the Assembly.
On governance issues, Yadav alleged corruption in transport and law enforcement, claiming irregularities involving overloaded trucks and seizures of illegal substances. He also criticised defence procurement and central schemes, questioning their impact on domestic industry and employment.
The SP chief further accused the BJP of manipulating voter lists and delaying Panchayat elections for political reasons. He reiterated his party’s demand for a caste census, saying it was essential to ensure social justice and equitable rights.
On broader political issues, Yadav alleged that the BJP was attempting to divide society and divert attention from core issues such as inflation, unemployment, and corruption. He said the Samajwadi Party would continue to work towards strengthening social justice and inclusive development.
