Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated 120 mist spray systems installed at the premises of Indira Gandhi International Airport, describing the initiative as a major step towards curbing air pollution in the national capital.
The mist systems, installed by the GMR Group, have been installed to improve ambient air quality for passengers and airport staff. Reaffirming her government’s commitment to the “Clear Air, Clean Delhi” mission, the Chief Minister said authorities are working on scientific short-term, mid-term and long-term strategies to tackle pollution.

South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Bijwasan MLA Kailash Gahlot, and GMR Group Director Narayan Rao Kada, along with other dignitaries, were present at the inauguration.
Highlighting ongoing anti-pollution measures, Gupta said mist spray systems have already been installed on major roads and at 143 elevated Metro stations across Delhi. She added that the real-time air quality monitoring network has been expanded to 46 Metro stations, making it the largest such network in any Indian city. Under the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ initiative, authorities are also enforcing strict compliance with pollution control norms.
Calling Delhi Airport the busiest in the National Capital Region, the Chief Minister said passenger traffic is projected to cross 100 million in the coming years, potentially making it the world’s fifth-largest airport. She noted that the newly installed mist systems would enhance passengers’ air quality experience while strengthening the capital’s environmental credentials.
Gupta thanked the GMR Group for the initiative, terming it an example of corporate social responsibility and collaborative nation-building. She added that the mist spray network at the airport will be expanded to 600 poles in the future to further strengthen dust control in and around the facility.
Outlining broader environmental goals, the Chief Minister said the Delhi Government plans to fully electrify the public bus fleet by 2029, expand the Metro network, scale up EV charging infrastructure, deploy over 1,000 water sprinklers, and implement AI-based dust monitoring at construction sites. These measures, she said, will play a crucial role in reducing pollution and making Delhi one of the country’s most liveable cities.
Reiterating her administration’s focus, Gupta said advancing Delhi on the path of clean air, green transport and sustainable growth remains a top priority, with sustained efforts set to continue.
