Setting the tone for the Union Budget for 2026–27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will on Thursday table the Economic Survey of India in Parliament.
Prepared by the Economic Division of the Ministry of Finance under the guidance of the Chief Economic Adviser, the Economic Survey offers an assessment of India’s current economic conditions. It reviews key trends, challenges and performance indicators, while also outlining the outlook for the next financial year and possible policy directions.

The tabling of the Economic Survey will be followed by the presentation of the Union Budget for 2026–27 on February 1.
Parliamentary agenda for the day
As per the listed agenda, Question Hour will be taken up first, followed by the laying of official papers on the Table of the House by members of the Union Council of Ministers.
Sitharaman is scheduled to lay documents related to the Ministry of Finance. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol will table papers linked to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA), including a statement reviewing the authority’s functioning for the year 2024–25.
The House will also formally lay eight Bills that have been passed by both Houses of Parliament during the Sixth Session of the 18th Lok Sabha and have since received the President’s assent.
In addition, the 13th Report of the Business Advisory Committee will be presented by Kiren Rijiju and Kodikunnil Suresh, according to the agenda.
Budget Session timeline
The Budget Session will comprise 30 sittings spread over 65 days and is scheduled to conclude on April 2. Parliament will adjourn for a recess on February 13 and reconvene on March 9, allowing Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments.
Ahead of the session, an all-party meeting chaired by Rajnath Singh was held on Tuesday. Leaders from across parties outlined the issues they plan to raise and assured cooperation for the smooth conduct of parliamentary business.
According to officials, the Budget Session of Parliament began on January 28 and, subject to government business, will run until April 2, with 13 sittings in the first phase and 17 in the second.
