As part of the ongoing trend of revisiting life a decade ago, Jasprit Bumrah shared a moment he says he will always cherish. On this day 10 years ago, the Indian pace spearhead made his international debut against Australia in Sydney, delivering an impressive 10-over spell of 2/40 in his first appearance in India colours.
Marking a decade in international cricket, Bumrah reflected on his journey, expressing gratitude and reaffirming his belief in continuing to challenge assumptions, opinions and perceptions.

A decade later, Bumrah stands tall as arguably the most skilful fast bowler India has ever produced. With an unorthodox action, lethal yorkers and remarkable pace and accuracy, he has been instrumental in India’s success across formats, often leaving batters with little option but to surrender to his brilliance.
Taking to Instagram, Bumrah wrote:
“10 years of living the dream of the child who fell in love with the sport that made him feel alive like nothing in this world ever could. The journey of going against assumptions, opinions and perceptions and keeping the belief alive continues, with the love and support of family and God. Waheguruji da shukr eda he baba ji mehraan bhariyaan hath rakheen. Satnam Waheguru.”
In 225 international matches, Bumrah has taken 486 wickets at an outstanding average of 20.66, including best figures of 6/19 and 18 five-wicket hauls. He is currently the eighth-highest wicket-taker for India in international cricket and needs just 14 more wickets to join the elite club of Indian bowlers with 500 or more international scalps.
In Test cricket, Bumrah has been nothing short of sensational. He has picked up 234 wickets in 52 matches at an average of 19.79, with 16 five-wicket hauls and best figures of 6/27. Remarkably, 13 of those fifers have come away from home, the most by an Indian, while 11 have been registered in challenging SENA conditions (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia), underlining his status as one of India’s finest overseas fast bowlers.
One of his most memorable red-ball performances came during India’s five-match tour of Australia, where he claimed 32 wickets, the most by an Indian on an overseas tour, including three five-wicket hauls, and was named Player of the Series.
Among bowlers with at least 150 Test wickets, only England’s Sydney Barnes boasts a better bowling average than Bumrah. Barnes took 189 wickets in 27 Tests at an average of 16.43.
In ODIs, Bumrah has taken 149 wickets in 89 matches at an average of 23.55, with two five-wicket hauls and best figures of 6/19. He was part of India’s squads that reached the semifinals and final of the ODI World Cups between 2019 and 2023, though the elusive title has so far remained out of reach. In 20 World Cup matches, he has claimed 38 wickets at an average of 19.57, with best figures of 4/39.
Bumrah is also India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals, with 103 wickets in 84 matches at an exceptional average of 18.45 and an economy rate of just 6.42. He played a pivotal role in India’s triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup, winning the Player of the Tournament award after taking 15 wickets at a staggering average of 8.26 and an economy of 4.17, with best figures of 3/7.
