Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP government over the alleged mismanagement during the Prayagraj Magh Mela and the incident involving Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati.
He alleged that a “new game” of pocketing tens of thousands of rupees in commissions in the name of the fair has begun under the BJP’s “highly corrupt rule.”

Posting on his social media account, Akhilesh Yadav said that due to the involvement of the BJP faction in the commission racket of “fair-related mega-corruption,” saints and sages are not receiving due respect, and those who speak out against the mismanagement of the fair are being targeted. He alleged that the government and administration are engaging in “objectionable, insulting, and violent misconduct” to protect this racket of “commission-taking.”

The SP president sarcastically remarked that the BJP should create a new post called “Commissioner of Commissions” instead of Commissioner. He also questioned, “Who is the ‘Dhritarashtra’ of the fair area’s Sanjay,” who was being shown and told about the events unfolding?
During the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, a huge crowd of devotees gathered at the Sangam Nose on Mauni Amavasya, making it difficult for the administration to manage the situation. During this time, Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati of Jyotish Peeth was stopped from proceeding further due to the crowd.
The administration requested him to alight from his chariot and walk on foot, but his supporters protested and tried to move forward. This led to pushing and shoving and a minor clash between the police and the supporters. Following this, Avimukteshwaranand accused the police of assaulting the saints.
The Shankaracharya has been on a dharna since then in front of his camp.
