“Only one name, Nitin Nabin, has been proposed as the National President of the BJP,” the returning officer said.
With nomination process over, an official announcement is likely to be made on Tuesday.
After Nabin, buzz grows over generational change in BJP organisation, Modi Cabinet 3.0
The BJP is celebrating a Sangathan Parv to mark Nabin’s elevation. Chief ministers of several BJP-ruled states, including Haryana, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh, state unit presidents, and Union ministers and senior leaders like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh converged at the BJP headquarters for Nabin’s election to the post of BJP national president.
The nomination process started at 2 PM and concluded at 4 PM, followed by the scrutiny of nomination papers from 4 PM to 5 PM.
Candidates had the option to withdraw their nominations between 5 PM and 6 PM. With Nabin being the only candidate, he is all but certain to succeed Nadda, who has been holding the post since 2020.
The 45-year-old will be the youngest BJP president to ever hold the post.
Who is Nitin Nabeen, the new BJP national working president
According to the BJP’s internal constitution, a candidate must be proposed jointly by at least 20 members of a state electoral college and have at least 15 years of membership.
The electoral college, comprising representatives from the party’s national council and state councils, will finalise the new president.
Reacting to the development, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that Nabin’s election to the BJP chief’s post is a moment of joy for the state.
“Under his leadership, the BJP will become even stronger…This is a day of pride for Bihar, and I thank Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and JP Nadda…In the BJP, an ordinary man, a worker sitting in the last row, can also become the party’s national president,” he said.
Nabin, a former minister in the Bihar Cabinet, was appointed as the national working president in December last year.
