CPM leader and Vattiyoorkavu MLA V K Prasanth has finally decided to vacate his office at Sasthamangalam here and shift to Maruthankuzhy in an apparent effort to put an end to the weeks long political spat over office space with Sasthamangalam ward BJP councillor R Sreelekha.
A controversy erupted after Sasthamangalam councillor Sreelekha demanded that VK Prasanth vacate the MLA office. Prasanth’s office had been functioning in a corporation building at Sasthamangalam, which falls under Sreelekha’s ward. The spat between VK Prasanth and Sasthamangalam ward BJP councillor R Sreelekha over the office space had drawn considerable public and political attention.

Immediately after being sworn in as councillor, Sreelekha, former Director Generala of Police(DGP), requested Prasanth to vacate the corporation building office, citing severe space constraints that allegedly affected her ability to function from the premises.
Tensions intensified after Sreelekha allegedly installed her own name board above Prasanth’s office nameplate in the corporation building and publicly shared images of it, further intensifying the standoff between the two elected representatives.
Initially, Prasanth had refused to vacate the Sasthamangalam office. He made it clear that he was not willing to vacate the office and would continue there until the end of the lease period.
On his decision to relocate his office, VK Prasanth said the decision to shift was taken to avoid unnecessary controversies and was a personal decision. He said several people had been using the controversy to undermine the work being carried out and to spread allegations.
