India completed a dominant series triumph with a 15-run victory over Sri Lanka in the fifth and final T20I at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. Batting first, India posted 175 for 7 before restricting Sri Lanka to 160 for 7 in their chase of 176.
India recovered from early setbacks through a composed innings from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. The captain anchored the effort with a well-crafted 68 off 43 deliveries, while Arundhati Reddy provided the late push with an unbeaten 27 off just 11 balls.
This marked the third time Indian women have completed a 5-0 T20I series clean sweep, having previously achieved the feat against the West Indies in 2019 and Bangladesh in 2024, both away from home.
Harmanpreet Kaur received the player of the match for her defining innings.
India were jolted early as opener Shafali Verma’s prolific run in the series came to an end in the second over. After three successive half-centuries, Verma was caught at long-on by Imesha Dulani. Debutant G. Kamalini scored a brisk 12 before falling, while Harleen Deol (13) also departed cheaply as India slipped to 77 for 5.
Harmanpreet then stitched together a crucial 61-run partnership with Amanjot Kaur (21) to stabilise the innings. Despite being 142 for 7 in the 18th over, India finished strongly, collecting 51 runs in the final four overs to lift the total well beyond what had looked likely midway through the innings.
Chasing a target of 176, Sri Lanka got off to a mixed start after losing skipper Chamari Athapaththu early for 2, caught by Deepti Sharma off Arundhati Reddy.
Imesha Dulani and Hasini Perera then counter-attacked effectively, taking Sri Lanka to 48/1 at the end of the powerplay and 75/1 at the halfway mark. Dulani brought up a fluent fifty off 38 balls, sharing a 79-run stand with Hasini, before Amanjot Kaur broke the partnership by dismissing Dulani for 50.
