AIADMK-BJP alliance to have CMP, will capture power in TN: Nainar Nagenthran

Though there have been pre-poll alliances in Tamil Nadu elections, no alliance has fought the elections on a CMP thus far. And neither the ruling DMK nor the principal opposition AIADMK have ever agreed for a coalition government so far.

With a Common Minimum Programme (CMP), the NDA in Tamil Nadu, comprising the AIADMK and the BJP, will face the 2026 assembly election, and the alliance will form the government, defeating the DMK-led INDIA Bloc, the saffron party’s state president Nainar Nagenthran has said.

Though there have been pre-poll alliances in Tamil Nadu elections, no alliance has fought the elections on a CMP thus far. And neither the ruling DMK nor the principal opposition AIADMK have ever agreed for a coalition government so far. “The AIADMK-BJP alliance will come out with a CMP and the combine will sweep the election,” a confident Nainar told the media at Udhagamandalam (Ooty) late on Sunday.

Dismissing the strong cohesion in the DMK-led INDIA Bloc as a myth, he said, “There are rumblings in the alliance. While the Congress has been demanding a share in power, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) (of Dalit leader Thol Thirumavalavan, MP) has, of late, turned critical of the DMK government of Stalin,” he pointed out, adding, “Cracks have developed in the DMK-led front.”

On the criticism of the DMK and its allies that the BJP will gobble up its ally AIADMK, as was the case with other parties elsewhere that had teamed up with the saffron party, “They need not unduly worry about this. It will never happen.” Then, responding to Amma Makkal Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary TTV Dhinakaran that he could not be intimidated and coerced to align with any party, Nainar said, “We are never into that. We have not threatened anyone to be with us. Not only actor Vijay, we are also against targeting any individual.”

Apart from the AIADMK, heading the NDA in Tamil Nadu, and the BJP, only the Tamil Maanila Congress of former Union Minister GK Vasan is in the NDA. The BJP hopes that the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), despite remaining split, and the DMDK of Premalatha Vijayakanth would join the NDA.
