Five people were killed after being hit by a speeding train while they were crossing a railway track in Shahjahanpur on Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred around 6:30 pm near a railway crossing at Atsaliya in the Roza police station area. According to officials, all five victims were riding on a single motorcycle and were attempting to cross the tracks when the accident took place.

A Garib Rath Express travelling from Bareilly to Lucknow struck the motorcycle, killing all five occupants on the spot. Railway and civil police teams rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Hariom, his relative Sethpal, Sethpal’s wife Pooja, and their two children—a son and a daughter. The family was returning home after shopping at the weekly Wednesday market in the city.

Police said that the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation into the incident is underway. Railway officials are also looking into the circumstances under which the accident occurred.
