All about India’s first nature-themed airport terminal
Spread over nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, the new terminal building is designed to handle up to 1.3 crore passengers annually.
The new Guwahati airport terminal building has been constructed on the theme of “Bamboo Orchids”, making it India’s first nature-themed airport terminal, drawing inspiration from Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage.
Hailed as India’s first nature-themed airport terminal, the building has been constructed using about 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced Northeast bamboo.
Kaziranga-inspired green landscapes, japi motifs, the iconic rhino symbol and 57 orchid-inspired columns reflecting the Kopou flower further enhance its design.
The terminal will give passengers a forest-like experience with a unique “Sky Forest”, featuring nearly one lakh plants of indigenous species.
Apart from being nature-friendly, the terminal also sets new benchmarks in passenger convenience and digital innovation.
The terminal is equipped with full-body scanners for fast, DigiYatra-enabled contactless travel, automated baggage handling, fast-track immigration, and AI-driven airport operations.
