Four Republicans join Democrats as House votes to curb Trump’s Iran war powers
The closely contested vote exposed divisions within the Republican Party while renewing debate over Congress' authority to approve extended military operations overseas.
Significantly, Fadnavis chose to react after former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan repeated his claim that a “Marathi man” will become the new Prime Minister of India after a “political earthquake” after December 19, speaking to media persons at a book release function at Pimpri Chinchwad on Monday.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made fun of senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan’s claim that India will soon get a different Prime Minister who will be a native of Maharashtra.
Fadnavis told media persons here on Monday, “Prithviraj Chavan should not bother himself with such thoughts. This is my advice to him. Till now, different people were sharing visions, dreams and prophecies. We have seen all this. However, if senior leaders like Prithviraj Chavan, who has been the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, also start having visions like this, I think there must be something wrong. Prithviraj Chavan is a very good leader. We wish him good health. But I advise him not to bother himself too much by thinking like this”.

Speaking to the media after the launch of social worker Manav Kamble’s book ‘Jan Gan Man’, Chavan said that his claim was linked to the much-awaited disclosure of the Epstein files in the United States (US) that could trigger political turmoil in India as well.
“The biggest political earthquake in the country will happen on December 19. The Prime Minister of India will change and a Marathi man will become the Prime Minister. I had tweeted something about it, and it went viral. I said that a Marathi man will become the Prime Minister of India within a month. I received many calls, asking what does your statement mean? How will this happen? Many people asked me such questions. Now, if a Marathi man is going to become the Prime Minister, the person currently holding that position should step aside. I see the possibility of change. But if a change happens, certainly nobody from the Congress will become the Prime Minister because we do not have a majority. I was referring to the fact that somebody from the BJP will become the Prime Minister, and it may be a Marathi man,” Prithviraj Chavan said, repeating his previous claim.
“The American Congress passed a law on 19th November, and according to that law, data will be published on December 19. As per the law, a secret video recording gathered by an Israeli intelligence (Mossad) agent in his residence in America, using hidden cameras, contains incriminating photographs and videos of many global political leaders. Some of these names have already surfaced on social media,” Prithviraj Chavan said, referring to what is popularly known as the “Jeffrey Epstein files”.
“The American Congress will release these photographs and videos on December 19. Around 75,000 photographs and 20,000 emails related to this matter have now come to light. A major political earthquake could occur after the American institution publishes all this information. Subsequently, a Marathi person could become the Prime Minister of our country,” Chavan stated, repeating his earlier claim.
As reported by The Statesman on December 1, 2025 (Monday), former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj had stated that if the names mentioned in client list of alleged Israeli spy, financier and paedophile sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein becomes public, it could cause a “political earthquake” in India, due to which a “Marathi man” might become the Prime Minister of India.
After Prithviraj Chavan repeated his claim on Monday, Maharashtra State Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal, who was asked to react to former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan’s statement, said, “Prithviraj Chavan is a very senior and responsible leader of the Congress. He is also known to be an intellectual, and I don’t think he will speak loosely. If he has said something, there must be something serious about it”.
Tweeting his claim on his X handle earlier on December 1, Chavan had tagged the official X handles of the Maharashtra Congress, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
“If the information in the ‘Epstein Files’ currently circulating in America comes out, it could cause a major earthquake in Indian politics. In this political upheaval, we may see a Marathi man become the Prime Minister of the country by next month,” Chavan had tweeted on X.
However, when media persons had asked Chavan about “Which Marathi man could become the Prime Minister during a press conference at Karad,” Chavan kept the suspense alive by saying nothing more than, “You find out now”.
Chavan said that the Epstein Files issue is of global significance. “A big businessman in America, called Jeffrey Epstein, did a lot of illegal activities. It is an issue which involves the leaders of all political parties, and he made them do questionable things. The names of all big political leaders have come up in America. President Trump’s name is also in the list. Therefore, Trump may have to resign. The Election Commission has very strict criteria there,” Chavan said.
“The US Congress is after Trump. It is asking for the names to be revealed, but Trump is not doing so because too many very high-profile people will get into trouble. The US Congress has been after Trump for six months, and 10,000 documents have been seized. Information in these documents could be revealed,” Chavan said.
According to Chavan, US President Donald Trump has signed the ‘Epstein Files Transparency Act’. After this, the Justice Department will now have to release all files and information related to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s sex crimes and his death in prison in 2019, within 30 days, Chavan said.
Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier with alleged ties to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, who was accused of sex trafficking, sexual exploitation of underage minor girls and selling their services to high-profile global figures, as part of an alleged blackmail operation to entrap them.
Epstein moved in the circles of billionaires, politicians, celebrities and scientists. In 2019, while his sex trafficking trial was underway, Epstein supposedly ‘died’ in prison. It was officially ruled a ‘suicide’, but Epstein’s death has raised many questions, including whether he is actually alive and still operating his bank account from somewhere in Israel.
