In a major organisational reshuffle in Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday appointed Sanjay Saraogi as its new State President. He replaces Dilip Jaiswal, who was inducted as the Minister of Industries in the Bihar government following the recent Assembly elections.
Saraogi is known for his strong influence in the Mithila region and enjoys a reputation as a clean and widely recognised leader in state politics. In the recent Assembly elections, he was elected for a sixth consecutive term from the Darbhanga Sadar Assembly constituency.

With Saraogi’s appointment, the BJP has sought to consolidate its core vote base, particularly the Vaishya community. He belongs to the Vaishya community, as did his predecessor, Dilip Jaiswal.
After his appointment, Sanjay Saraogi said that the party has entrusted him with an important responsibility. He added that the party is like a mother to him, and he will certainly work with full honesty and dedication to strengthen the party.
Soon after the announcement, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and MLA Jivesh Mishra, along with several party leaders and well-wishers, visited Saraogi’s residence in Patna to congratulate him. The leaders felicitated the newly appointed State President with a ceremonial shawl and a bouquet.
Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary said that by appointing Sanjay Saraogi as the BJP’s Bihar President, following the nomination of Nitin Nabin as the party’s National Executive President, the central leadership had made its priorities for Bihar clear. He added that the party had begun preparations for future challenges, including the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and the 2030 Bihar Assembly elections.
Janata Dal (United) State President Umesh Singh Kushwaha also congratulated Saraogi and said that, together with the newly appointed BJP State President, the alliance partners would work to further strengthen the NDA at the organisational level through mutual cooperation and coordination.
He said, “Sanjay Saraogi is a politician with a gentle, dignified, and friendly demeanor. His organisational abilities and effective leadership will certainly benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party.”
Saraogi entered politics during his student years and went on to serve in various capacities in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
His electoral career began in 2003, when he was elected as a ward councillor of the Darbhanga Municipal Corporation. Since 2005, he has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, winning six consecutive terms.
In 2017, he served as Chairman of the Estimates Committee of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He also served as Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms in the previous Bihar government.
