Over three lakh voters have been marked as “uncollectible” in West Burdwan district, according to the District Electoral Officer (DEO) and District Magistrate, S. Ponnamballam.

The submission of enumeration forms in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls process in West Bengal ended yesterday,
and the West Burdwan district administration released the latest figures related to their distribution, collection, and digitisation. The voter list revision work in the district is almost at its final stage, and the latest update from the district has revealed several surprising statistics.

For example, 3,06,460 forms have been marked as “uncollectable” in the nine Assembly constituencies of the district, which implies that the names of these voters have either been removed from the voter list or would be corrected and added later.

A total of 23,27,111 forms were distributed across the nine constituencies of Asansol South, Asansol North, Jamuria, Kulti, Raniganj, Barabani, Pandaveswar, Durgapur South and Durgapur West, which according to the data, is a 100% distribution. Out of these, about 87% (46.83%) have been digitised, amounting to 20,20,476 forms.

Durgapur East is ahead of all other constituencies in this task, with nearly 90% (89.81%) work completed. On the other hand, Asansol North and Kulti Assembly constituencies somewhat lagged behind.

The DM said that of the 3,06,460 “uncollectible” voters, 1,31,160 have permanently shifted from their old residence, while 96,547 voters have passed away, and 71,361 voters could not be found at their registered address, with the respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) unable to trace them.

Asansol North and Kulti constituencies show the highest percentage of uncollectible enumeration forms, with 14.73% and 14.67%
respectively. Incidentally, Asansol North is the constituency of heavyweight TMC leader and state law, judiciary and labour minister
Moloy Ghatak.

The highest number of relocated (shifted) voters are from Raniganj (19,678) and Jamuria (19,385). In contrast, Durgapur East has the lowest percentage of uncollectible forms, with 10.19%. TMC leader and state panchayat minister, Pradip Majumdar, is the sitting MLA of
Durgapur East.

After verifying all the uploaded enumeration forms, the Election Commission will publish the draft first voter list later this month, followed by the final list next year.
