A Special Vigilance Court in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Friday convicted a teacher of a government-run school on the charge of embezzling government funds and sentenced him to undergo 4 years of rigorous imprisonment.
“Ramakanta Sethy, Former Headmaster-cum-Secretary, Project Upper Primary School (PUPS), Boudh currently serving as assistant teacher, Gundulia UGHS in Boudh district, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988/409/120B IPC for misappropriating Government money without executing the construction work of Project Upper Primary School building at Budhibalanda, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine of Rs.20,000”, the vigilance said in a statement.

After the court pronounced the verdict, the convict was sent to jail to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of the teacher from service following his conviction, it added.
