The venue will be the highlight, as the stadium will be hosting a men’s international match for the first time. With a capacity of 38,000, the stadium has hosted two Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs) between India and Australia, with the latter winning the first match by 8 wickets, while India won by 102 runs in the second one. The stadium had so far hosted 11 IPL matches, including two play-offs this year.

As a gesture to inspire the next generation of cricketers, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) will officially inaugurate two new stands. One stand is dedicated to the captain of the Women’s World Cup-winning team, Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar, and the other for former Indian legend and 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh.

“India is set to play its first-ever men’s international match at the PCA Mullanpur Stadium. The match has generated huge excitement, with many tickets already sold. This time, new features have been added, including dedicated stands for Yuvraj Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur. Organisers are making efforts to make this match a unique experience for fans.” PCA president Amarjit Singh Mehta said to IANS.

The PCA will also honour Amanjot Kaur, a member of the Women’s World Cup-winning Indian team, and Munish Bali, fielding coach of the World Cup-winning women’s team.

“Amanjot Kaur and Harmanpreet will also receive the cash prize that we had announced for them after they lifted the World Cup earlier this month. A stand being named after them is a tiny thing compared to the big feat that they’ve achieved for the nation. This is a small token from us to them in recognition of their achievements. The up-and-coming players will gain inspiration from cricketers like Harmanpreet, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah. They’re the ones who motivate the young girls, and seeing them do well will encourage the girls to do well. We also have some surprises coming up for everyone,” (PCA) Secretary Siddhant Sharma told IANS.
