If you enjoy stories that make you suspect every smile and question every silence, get ready. ‘The Housemaid’ starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried is finally arriving in Indian theatres on January 2, 2026.

Based on Freida McFadden’s hit novel, the film takes a simple idea: a young woman taking a housekeeping job and slowly twists it into a nerve-tightening psychological game. At the heart of this thriller is Millie Calloway played by Sydney Sweeney who enters the elegant yet unsettling Winchester home.

What begins as a dream job quickly turns into something far more dangerous. Millie becomes trapped between loyalty and fear, between survival and truth, as she discovers that this “perfect” family may be hiding more than just expensive furniture.

Amanda Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, the mysterious woman who hires Millie. This is the first time Seyfried and Sweeney share the screen and their pairing alone is reason enough for excitement.

The cast around them adds even more tension. Brandon Sklenar plays Andrew Winchester, Nina’s husband, whose calm exterior hints at deeper complications. Michele Morrone steps in as Enzo, groundskeeper with sharp instincts. Elizabeth Perkins appears as Evelyn Winchester, the intimidating matriarch of the family.

The film is directed by Paul Feig. But here, Feig steps into a completely different territory, a psychological thriller. It marks a major creative turn for him. Early insiders say he brings a precise, unsettling tone to the story. The screenplay has been written by Rebecca Sonnenshine. And the music is composed by Theodore Shapiro marking his seventh collaboration with Feig.

Production took place in New Jersey, beginning in January 2025 and wrapping up two months later. The team behind the film includes producers Todd Lieberman and Laura Fischer, along with Sweeney and Seyfried themselves, who also serve as executive producers.

‘The Housemaid’ is being released in India by PVRINOX Pictures, promising Indian audiences a domestic thriller filled with tension, hidden motives, and the kind of quiet dread that slowly grows with every scene.
