Mumbai’s air quality has taken a hit, prompting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to enforce Graded Response Action Plan, Stage 4 (GRAP-4) level restrictions in several areas, including Mazgaon, Deonar, and Andheri. This step has been taken to prevent the air quality in the city from deteriorating further into an emergency.
In response to the worsening pollution, the civic authority has issued stop memos to construction and dust-generating activities while small industries, like bakeries and marble-cutting units have been directed to adopt cleaner technologies, officials said.

In order to monitor the situation, the civic agency has constituted flying squads to enforce GRAP-4 measures to contain incidents of garbage burning, construction related activities and waste disposal.
The BMC has also launched a citywide road-cleaning and dust-control drive, and over 50 construction sites have received stop memos. The restrictions will remain in place until air quality improve in the city
