A 38-year-old woman, who has been absconding for four years, was arrested for her alleged involvement in the murder case of a man who had visited her residence to collect debt in Delhi’s Samaypur Badli, a police official said on Thursday.

The accused, who is the wife of one of the other accused, was declared a proclaimed offender on May 19, 2022. She was wanted for her alleged involvement in the murder of one Abhishek, also known as Monu, he said.

The incident occurred on November 21, 2021, when the victim visited the house of one of the accused, Hukam Chand, in Siraspur to recover money owed to him, a senior police officer said.

“The other accused were identified as Sonu, Sunil, and Sunil’s wife,” he said.

The deceased allegedly got involved in a heated argument with Monu and called the other accused to the scene.

The accused allegedly attacked Monu with sticks, inflicting serious injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at BJRM Hospital, the officer said.

A case was registered, and two of the accused, Hukam and Sunil, have been arrested, while Sonu remains at large.

However, the woman managed to flee and went into hiding, after which she was declared a proclaimed offender, the police said.

“On Wednesday, the police received specific information regarding the whereabouts of the woman, who had returned to her home in Siraspur. Acting on the tip, they conducted a raid and arrested her,” the officer said.

Investigators said the woman had fled to Nainital, Uttarakhand, after the murder and stayed there until January, and then she quietly returned to Delhi.

“Her husband, Sunil, is currently in judicial custody in connection with the same case,” the officer further said, adding that the investigation into this case is ongoing to gather more details.
