Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India always seeks peace but never compromises on its security, adding that ‘Operation Sindoor’ is the biggest example of this resolve.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in Haryana’s Kurukshetra, Modi said, “We speak to the world about universal brotherhood, and we also protect our borders. We seek peace, but we do not compromise on our security.”

“Operation Sindoor is the biggest example of this…Today’s India is moving forward with full strength, with courage and clarity,” he added.
The Prime Minister hailed Guru Sahib for his bravery during the Mughal era, recalling how he stood with Kashmiri Hindus when they were being forcibly converted to Islam.
“During the era of Mughal invaders, Kashmiri Hindus were being forcibly converted to Islam. Amid this crisis, a group of victims sought assistance from Guru Sahib. At that time, Sri Guru Sahib told those victims to clearly convey to Aurangzeb that if Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur accepts Islam, then we will all adopt Islam,” Modi said.
The PM continued, “Standing on this very land of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna declared the protection of truth and justice as the greatest religion…Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji also considered the protection of truth, justice, and faith as his religion.”
He said that personalities like Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji are rare in history and that their lives, sacrifices and character are a great source of inspiration.
Modi further hailed the sacred land of Kurukshetra as an important centre of the Sikh tradition.
“See the good fortune of this land, almost all the Gurus of the Sikh tradition visited here during their holy journeys. When the ninth Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, visited this holy land, he left an imprint of his intense penance and fearless courage here,” he added.
Modi said, “Today is a wonderful confluence of India’s heritage. This morning, I was in Ayodhya, the city of the Ramayana, and now I am here in Kurukshetra, the city of the Gita. We are all here paying homage to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on his 350th martyrdom day.”
