The BJP on Tuesday held a high-level review meeting at its state headquarters in Raipur to assess organisational preparedness and political positioning over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Chhattisgarh.

The meeting was chaired by BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and attended by state BJP president Kiran Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, MLAs, MPs and senior party functionaries.

Addressing party leaders, Chugh underlined that ensuring accuracy, transparency and credibility of the voters’ list must remain the central objective of the SIR process. He stressed that democratic integrity depends on inclusion of genuine voters and removal of incorrect or suspicious entries.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said the party had activated its organisation down to the booth level to facilitate the revision exercise.

He noted that representatives have been instructed to support the process by ensuring inclusion of eligible voters while flagging entries that appear unverified or inconsistent with electoral norms.

Responding to the padyatra being undertaken by Pradesh Congress Committee chief Deepak Baij over the SIR issue, Sharma adopted a measured tone, stating that if the march is intended to generate awareness about correcting inaccuracies in the voters’ list, it should be viewed positively.

“If the initiative contributes to strengthening the electoral process, it deserves appreciation, irrespective of political rhetoric,” he said, while indirectly cautioning against turning a procedural exercise into a confrontational narrative.

The political discourse around SIR has intensified further with Chhattisgarh Congress in charge Sachin Pilot scheduled to arrive on a two day visit from November 26. His visit is expected to focus on reviewing the implementation of the revision process and addressing party concerns about alleged irregularities.

BJP leaders, however, have accused the Congress of creating unnecessary confusion around a constitutionally mandated exercise. State BJP president Kiran Singh Deo said the opposition was attempting to cast doubts over a process that is meant to ensure electoral purity.

“A clean voters’ list is foundational to democracy. Misrepresenting the process only weakens public trust,” he remarked.

As the debate sharpens, the SIR process has become not just an administrative exercise but a focal point of political contestation, reflecting broader tensions over electoral transparency and institutional credibility in the run up to future polls.
