A day after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta lifted the restriction on power connections to properties booked by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for various violations, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, General Secretary of the Chandni Chowk Citizens Forum and Delhi BJP spokesperson, welcomed the decision.

According to a statement, a move that will benefit nearly 1.25 lakh families in the national capital, the Delhi government issued an order for providing power connections to the booked properties, according to the statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.

In a statement issued here, the General Secretary of the Chandni Chowk Citizens Forum said in Old Delhi alone, stretching from Delhi Gate to Sadar Bazaar, there are over 10,000 properties booked, including approximately 40,000 residential families and over 50,000 shopkeepers who were struggling to get electricity connections or were forced to use electricity illegally.

“Millions of Old Delhi merchants have been paying full sales tax and GST revenue since the time of Mrs Sheila Dikshit’s government, but when they requested electricity or water, they were denied, calling their shops illegal,” he said, adding that this decision has brought significant relief to them.
