ECI Bihar Results at 1 pm: NDA crosses 200 mark; Tejashwi Yadav trails

The intense Bihar assembly polls’ counting process is underway across districts, with results likely to be declared later in the day. The process commenced at 8 am today, with postal ballot counting starting first, followed by EVM counting at 8:30 am. Bihar recorded a landmark 67.13% voter turnout, the highest since 1951, with women voters outdoing men (71.6% vs 62.8%), in the two-phase voting held on November 6 and November 11.

The intense Bihar assembly polls’ counting process is underway across districts, with results likely to be declared later in the day. The process commenced at 8 am today, with postal ballot counting starting first, followed by EVM counting at 8:30 am. Bihar recorded a landmark 67.13% voter turnout, the highest since 1951, with women voters outdoing men (71.6% vs 62.8%), in the two-phase voting held on November 6 and November 11.

Meanwhile, counting is underway for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly. As of 1:45 pm, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed the 200 mark, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading the fight with 91 seats, while Janata Dal (United) is racing ahead on 81 seats, as per the Election Commission of India. Rashtriya Janata Dal has so far maintained a lead on 26 seats, while Congress is racing ahead on 4 seats, the ECI trends said.

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) – LJPRV is ahead in 22 seats so far, with Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) – HAMS leading on five seats; Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) – CPI(ML)  has got four seats; (L); All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen – AIMIM is maintaining a lead at five seats.

Other parties include the Communist Party of India (Marxist) — CPI(M) — which secured one seat, while the Bahujan Samaj Party is leading on one seat, and an Independent candidate has also secured one seat.

Under the Mahagathbandhan alliance, the RJD is contesting 142 seats, Congress 60, CPI(ML) 20, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) 10, CPI 9, CPI(M) 4, and the newly formed Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) 2 seats.

The Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) put out two lists of candidates on October 15 and October 16, respectively, totalling 101 names for the upcoming 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. As per the seat-sharing agreement in the NDA alliance, JD(U) fielded 101 candidates.

The BJP is contesting on 101 seats. Singer Maithili Thakur is helping the BJP connect with people in the Mithilanchal region, and Mangal Pandey is seen as a reliable leader in Siwan.

Nearly 40% of Congress nominees come from upper castes, while only 5 of its 61 candidates are women—just 8.2%.

Within the alliance, the RJD is contesting 142 seats, Congress 61, CPI (ML) 20, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) 10, CPI 9, CPI(M) 4, and the new Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) 2 seats.
