The by-poll in Kashmir’s Budgam Assembly constituency on Tuesday recorded a voter turnout of 50.1%, while Jammu’s Nagrota Assembly constituency witnessed a heavy polling of 74.82%.

The vacancies in the Budgam and Nagrota Assembly constituencies arose due to the resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who retained the Ganderbal seat after being elected from two constituencies and the death of BJP leader Davinder Singh Rana, respectively.

There were 17 candidates contesting in Budgam and 10 in Nagrota.
Budgam had 1,26,025 registered electors and Nagrota had 97,980. To facilitate these voters, 173 polling stations were set up in Budgam and 150 in Nagrota.
In addition, 24 special polling stations—19 in Jammu, one in Udhampur, and four in Delhi—were established for Kashmiri migrant electors registered in the Budgam Assembly constituency to enable their physical voting under the scheme for Kashmiri migrant voters.
