A shocking case of honour killing has come to light in Siddharthnagar district, where a young man was allegedly set on fire by the family members of his married lover.
The victim, identified as Krishnadev alias Rohit Pandey, succumbed to his injuries at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, after sustaining severe burn injuries, police said today.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday night in Barnwar village under Khesraha police station. Krishnadev was invited to dinner by his lover Sudha Yadav, her sister Madhuri and brother Rakesh. When he did not return home by late night, his family went out searching for him. They were horrified to find him badly burned and writhing in pain on the road.

Krishnadev’s wife Poonam alleged that Sudha and her family had premeditated the murder.
“They called my husband for dinner. During the meal, they got petrol from someone in the village. Sudha and Madhuri held him while Rakesh poured petrol on him and set him ablaze,” she said in tears.
Poonam demanded strict punishment, saying, “My husband was brutally murdered. I want blood for blood. He worked as a driver in Delhi and was the sole breadwinner for our family. Now, who will take care of our two little sons, Aman (6) and Vishal (5)?”
Station House Officer Anup Kumar Mishra said that on the basis of Poonam’s written complaint, a case has been registered against three accused persons — Sudha, Madhuri, and Rakesh.
Police have arrested Rakesh, while the two women named in the case are absconding.
The SHO added that the body has been sent for post-mortem and that further investigation is underway.
Police teams are conducting searches to apprehend the remaining accused.
