Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav Thursday alleged that the rapidly growing inequality and economic disparity in the country’s economy is a matter of deep concern for society.

He said that when the wealth of the country’s 1 per cent richest people has increased by 62 per cent in the last few years, it is not difficult to understand how much wealth is left for the remaining 99 per cent of the population.

Posting on his social media account on the day when the first phase of polling for Bihar Assembly is taking place, Akhilesh Yadav said this widening economic gap has deepened not only economic but also social discrimination.

He said that when immense wealth and resources are concentrated in the hands of some sections of society, the doors of opportunity and respect become limited for the rest of the population.

Yadav said that only a rational and equitable distribution of income can pave the way for true social equality. He expressed confidence that India will progress only when every citizen has equal opportunity and every family has the right to live a respectable life.

He made an emotional appeal to all the voters of Bihar, saying, “I appeal to every voter of Bihar to cast their vote to build a bright future for themselves. In a democracy, the power of the vote is paramount. Therefore, cast your vote and recognize your power.”

He said that public awareness and participation are the true strength of democracy. Each vote in Bihar will determine the direction and condition of the country, he added.
