Taking to the social media platform X, PM Modi praised the team’s stellar display throughout the hybrid-hosted tournament.
”A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence,” the Prime Minister wrote. “The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports.”
The win holds immense significance, as India had previously reached the finals in 2005 and 2017 but fell short of the title. This year’s victory was powered by heroic individual performances, including Player of the Match Shafali Verma, who top-scored with 87, and an all-round masterclass from Deepti Sharma, who contributed a vital 58 runs before ripping through the South African batting line-up with a sensational five-wicket haul. Deepti Sharma, who finished as the top wicket-taker in the tournament and scored three half-centuries, was named the Player of the Tournament.
The triumph in front of a packed, roaring crowd solidifies the growing stature of women’s cricket in India, providing a powerful inspirational moment for aspiring athletes across the country.
