Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiary Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) marked their 51st Foundation Day with a ceremony at CCL headquarters in Ranchi on Saturday, celebrating over five decades of contribution to India’s energy sector while paying tribute to the coal miners who built its legacy.

The event began with floral tributes at the Shaheed Smarak, where Director (Finance) Pawan Kumar Mishra and Director (Technical/Operations) Chandra Shekhar Tiwari paid homage to martyred coal workers. The ceremony included the hoisting of Coal India and CCL flags, followed by the flags of all CCL operational areas. Balloons were released to symbolize unity, energy, and optimism.

Addressing employees and officers, Pawan Kumar Mishra extended greetings to all on the occasion and underlined Coal India’s pivotal role in sustaining India’s energy needs. “Coal, nuclear and petroleum are the three key sources of the nation’s energy. Nearly 80 percent of India’s power generation still comes from coal, and Coal India remains committed to ensuring accessible and affordable energy for all,” he said.

Chandra Shekhar Tiwari, in his address, highlighted the modernization drive that has transformed India’s coal sector. “Coal India’s journey has been one of learning and innovation. We have embraced modern machinery, automation and digital systems to enhance safety and productivity. Development is never ending,” he said.

The ceremony also honored the memory of miners who lost their lives in service, reaffirming the company’s sense of collective pride and gratitude. Senior officials, general managers, department heads, trade union representatives and employees from various CCL units attended the event in large numbers.

The Foundation Day celebration reaffirmed CCL and Coal India’s shared mission to strengthen energy reliability while advancing modernization, sustainability and technological excellence.
