The horrific case of the rape and murder of a minor girl in Chandauli district has sparked a political storm.

Congress state president Ajay Rai on Friday visited the victim’s village and met the grieving family. He assured them of financial assistance and promised the party’s full support.

Expressing deep sorrow and anger over the brutal incident, Rai said it was a shameful episode not just for Chandauli but for society as a whole. He condemned the crime, terming it “a blot on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.”

He accused the Yogi Adityanath government of failing to protect women and children despite its claims of “zero tolerance” towards crime.

“Yogi Ji goes to Bihar and boasts about law and order in Uttar Pradesh, but the reality is that heinous crimes like this continue to happen in districts like Chandauli,” Rai said. He demanded strict action against the accused and suspension of negligent officials.

Rai pointed out that the crime occurred near the Uttar Pradesh–Bihar border, where a minor girl from a poor family was brutally assaulted and killed. He said packets of biscuits and snacks were found at the crime scene, suggesting that a party had been held there before the incident. Calling the case “a disgrace for the BJP government,” he urged swift justice for the victim.

When asked about the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) extending support to the AIMIM in Bihar, Rai said both parties were acting as the BJP’s allies. He claimed that BSP chief Mayawati’s recent praise of the BJP government on Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary showed their “hidden alliance.”

Speaking about the Bihar elections, Rai asserted that the INDIA bloc would win the polls, with Tejashwi Yadav becoming Chief Minister, Mukesh Sahani as one Deputy Chief Minister, and a Congress leader holding the other Deputy Chief Minister post.

Commenting on the ongoing war of words among Bhojpuri film artists, Rai said that artists should contribute to social causes alongside their artistic pursuits. Citing BJP MPs Ravi Kishan and Manoj Tiwari as examples, he urged artists to stop spreading misleading narratives and instead focus on addressing the growing incidents of violence and crime in Uttar Pradesh.
