Gorakhpur recently witnessed a moment no one expected. Former Bollywood star Mamta Kulkarni who has mostly stayed away from the limelight for years, suddenly became the centre of heated discussions after she spoke about underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim during a public event in Uttar Pradesh.
Her words travelled fast. Within hours, clips from the event were everywhere, social media was buzzing and debates had already begun. People were shocked, confused, and curious.

At the event, Mamta Kulkarni tried to distance herself from any connection with Dawood Ibrahim. But her explanation sparked more questions than answers. Speaking to the media, she firmly said she had nothing to do with him. She insisted that people had taken her name wrongly in the past.
The former actress explained in Hindi that she never met Dawood in her life and denied any link with him. She also added that the person her name was once associated with, believed by many to be Vicky Goswami, had not committed any anti-national activity inside India.
“He is not some terrorist,” she said, asking people to understand “the difference.”
But her words did not go down smoothly. Social media caught fire almost instantly. Many users felt she had made an indirect defense of people linked to the underworld. Others argued she was simply clarifying her past and denying any connection. In the middle of this confusion, her video clip went viral and became a talking point everywhere.
Seeing the uproar, Mamta soon posted another video. This time she appeared with a calmer tone. She asked people to listen carefully and use their wisdom before judging her. She repeated that she has nothing to do with Dawood and never had any connection with him. Not in the past, not now.
Mamta Kulkarni talks about Dawood Ibrahim:
She again mentioned Vicky Goswami openly. Mamta admitted she knew him and was associated with him for some period, but strongly maintained that he never did anything anti-national according to her knowledge. She insisted her earlier comments were misunderstood and blown out of proportion.
For those who may not remember, Goswami has been a controversial figure and has been linked to drug trafficking cases. He was also rumoured to have married Mamta in the past although he denied that years ago. Goswami had once told India Today that Mamta was not his wife but a well-wisher who stood by him in tough times.
With all this resurfacing suddenly, it felt like a slice of 90s Bollywood gossip had returned.
Because once upon a time, Mamta Kulkarni was one of the most popular faces on the silver screen. She appeared in popular films like ‘Karan Arjun’ and ‘China Gate’. But in 2003 at the peak of her fame, she quietly walked away from the film industry and chose a life of spirituality instead.
Since then she has only been seen occasionally in the news mostly due to controversies linked to her past associations.
