Delhi acid attack: Police uncover contradictions in victim’s statement, her father arrested

The investigation into a recent acid attack case has taken a new turn, with police sources revealing that the prime accused, Jitender, has a verifiable alibi for the time of the incident, directly contradicting the victim’s account.

According to a senior police source, technical evidence places Jitender far from the crime scene.

“The accused, Jitender, who works as a painter, was confirmed to be in Karol Bagh since the morning of the incident. This is corroborated by call detail record (CDR) analysis, CCTV footage, and witness statements. The motorcycle allegedly used in the attack was also found in Karol Bagh at the time,” the source said.

The 20-year-old victim, a second-year open school student, had alleged that on Sunday morning, Jitender and two others—identified as Ishan and Arman—attacked her with an acid-like substance near Rani Laxmibai College in northwest Delhi.

However, police have found significant inconsistencies in her statement. Sources said that the other named co-accused, Arman and Ishan, are currently in Agra with their mother, Shabnam, and are expected to join the investigation soon.

In a related development, Shabnam informed the police that she herself was an acid attack victim in 2018, allegedly targeted by relatives of Aqeel Khan, the father of the current complainant. She also mentioned an ongoing property dispute with Khan over a Mangolpuri property, a case that is currently under trial.

Father of victim arrested

Meanwhile, the police has arrested the father of the girl who sustained acid burn injuries in the Delhi acid attack case in an FIR registered under sections of rape and the IT Act, reported news agency IANS.

Police had taken the girl’s father in the custody from Sangam Vihar for questioning after main accused Jitender’s wife reportedly filed a complaint against him, alleging sexual assault.

Background and Investigation Findings

The case was initiated following a PCR call from Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital about a female patient admitted with acid injuries.

The victim had stated that she was on her way to Laxmibai College for an extra class when the three accused, riding a motorcycle, confronted her. She alleged that Arman threw the liquid, causing burn injuries to her hands as she tried to shield her face.

However, technical analysis of the victim’s movements has raised further questions. CCTV footage shows her leaving her home in Mukundpur on a scooter driven by her brother, who dropped her off in Ashok Vihar area.

She was later seen traveling further in an e-rickshaw. Police are probing why her brother did not drop her directly at the college gate. It has also been noted that the brother has since become untraceable and is not cooperating with the investigation.

In light of these developments, the case is being re-investigated under the close supervision of senior officers to verify the authenticity of the FIR and reconcile conflicting statements from both the complainant and the accused.
